Revelation

Can the presence of an audience have an effect on the creation of art? Could this consideration somehow reduce, lapse or deflect the maturation of the artwork? What would the relevance of the audience profile be on this effect?
These are some questions that come to mind considering the performance of the contemporary art scene this year. The thought of a removal of any outside audience leads us to think about the indulgence an artist experiences when he produces an artwork only and only for himself. Can this feeling be carried to public space? And what kind of pleasure does the viewer find by entering into the space of the artist through these “private” works?
A group of artists -majority of who are not represented by a gallery- are brought together in a group show by artSümer. The exhibition “revelation” by artists Merve Brill, Erdal Duman, Gökçe Er, Hakan Gürsoytrak, Ayça Telgeren and Vahit Tuna will be open at artSümer from June 10th through 29th of July.
