contemporary istanbul 2009

artSümer is pleased to announce its participation in the 2009 Contemporary Istanbul art fair from 3 to 6 December. We invite you to visit us at stand B108 on the entrance level of the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center.

This year we are proud to showcase a distinguished group of artists, including the renowned abstract painter Kemal Seyhan, who arrays his thoughts on canvas with layers of vertical and horizontal spatula strikes; Damla Faro, who creates a fantastic dream-world with her photographs and installations, binding the two-dimensional attributes of the fairy tales to three-dimensional reality; Onur Gülfidan, whose figures, innocent in the face of a remorselessly technological world, vividly render the social and political circumstances in which he lives; Ceren Oykut, whose drawings, evoking traditions such as shadow theater and calligraphy, illustrate the urban culture of Istanbul; Fahrettin Örenli, whose images pinpoint the absurdities in life in order to understand the nature of human existence, whether real, unreal, or surreal; Ayla Turan, whose sculptures fulfill the potential of their material while acting as a form of political commentary; and introducing Theis Wendt, a Danish artist whose drawing-paintings use the communicative qualities of the media to provoke the viewer to active reading.

artSümer, founded in 2005 by Aslı Sümer, focuses on representing cutting-edge Turkish contemporary art. The gallery works with artists at all stages of their careers, whose diverse practices include painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, video and new media. artSümer represents artists both locally and internationally, as well as offering consulting services for collectors of Turkish contemporary art.

The gallery will be closed from 29 November to 8 December during the holiday and art fair. From 3 to 6 December we welcome you to visit our stand (B108) at Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair at the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar Convention and Exhibition Center.
