artSumer presents an exhibition of recent paintings by artist Suat Akdemir. Trained at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul, Akdemir focuses on the construction and the deconstruction of the canvas while he paints. Akdemir takes the work of the Abstract Expressionists one step further by incorporating actions that bring about the partial destruction of the canvas: ripping, burning, and tearing the surface. Besides acrylics, Akdemir uses various media such as organic dyes and metallic powders.
This is his most recent solo show after many years followed by his representation at the Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair, Scope Miami 2007 and Scope Basel 2008.
